Year 5
Year 5 spent the week learning about Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show coming to Horfield in 1891. The interviewed the man himself to learn more about his life, looked at posters and newspapers advertising the show, and even looked at early film footage from one of his American shows. They all produced their own posters and newspaper reports of the show.
Year 6
Year 6 spent the week being detectives, uncovering the lives of the First World War soldiers buried in, or commemorated at, Horfield Parish Church. Under the direction of Military Historian Jeremy Banning the pupils took a tour of the churchyard, taking down information from the soldiers' graves. They also saw the site of the old Horfield Barracks. Back in the classroom they used the information from the headstones to find records of the soldiers on the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, and Ancestry Institution websites. They used the information they found to create biographies of the local men killed at war.
